EMDR Therapy in Lawrence, KS
A structured, evidence-based therapy that helps your brain reprocess painful memories so they lose their grip on the present.

Some memories don't stay in the past. A sound, a smell, a certain tone of voice, and suddenly your body reacts as if it's happening all over again. It happens because of how the brain stores experiences it never got the chance to fully process.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is one of the most researched and effective treatments for trauma and PTSD. Using bilateral stimulation (guided eye movements, tapping, or tones), EMDR helps your brain do what it couldn't do at the time of the event: file the memory away as something that happened, rather than something that is still happening.
In our work together, EMDR is paced entirely around your sense of safety. We build grounding and stabilization skills first, and we never move faster than you can comfortably handle. Many clients are surprised that they don't have to talk through every detail of what happened for EMDR to work.
What EMDR looks like here
History & preparation first
We begin with your story, your goals, and a toolkit of grounding and self-soothing skills, so you always have solid footing before any memory work begins.
Reprocessing at your pace
Using bilateral stimulation, we target specific memories while you remain fully present and in control. You can pause at any moment; your window of tolerance leads the work.
Installing what's true now
As old memories lose their charge, we strengthen what you want to believe instead, like "I can protect myself" and "I'm allowed to feel safe."
Common questions
Wondering about EMDR therapy?
Have a question that isn’t answered here? Reach out anytime.
Do I have to relive my trauma during EMDR?
No. You'll briefly bring a memory to mind, but you don't have to narrate it in detail or re-experience it. Many clients process significant trauma while saying very little about the event itself.
How many EMDR sessions will I need?
It varies. A single distressing event can sometimes resolve in a handful of reprocessing sessions; complex or childhood trauma takes longer because we build safety and stabilization first. We'll review progress together regularly.
Does EMDR work over telehealth?
Yes. EMDR adapts well to secure video sessions using visual or auditory bilateral stimulation, and I offer it to clients anywhere in Kansas.
