Therapy for Teens in Lawrence, KS

A judgment-free space for teens navigating anxiety, identity, school pressure, and everything no one warned them about.

Being a teenager right now is genuinely hard: academic pressure, social media, friendships that shift overnight, and adult-sized decisions arriving before anyone quite feels ready for them.

Teens in my office get something rare: an adult who listens without lecturing. Therapy works with teenagers when it's honest and collaborative (their goals, not just their parents') and when the therapist can hold hard things (anxiety, self-harm urges, identity questions, trauma) without flinching or judging.

For parents: I keep you appropriately in the loop while protecting the confidentiality that makes a teen actually talk. You'll be a partner in the work, and your teen will have the private space they need for it to matter.

How I work with teens

01

Their agenda first

Therapy fails when it feels like another adult's assignment. We start with what your teen actually wants to be different, and build trust from there.

02

Real tools, not busywork

Concrete skills for anxiety, big emotions, and hard conversations, taught in ways teens can actually use at school and at home.

03

Parents as partners

Periodic parent check-ins keep you informed about progress and equipped to support the work at home, without turning me into a reporting service.

Common questions

Wondering about teens & young adults?

Have a question that isn’t answered here? Reach out anytime.

My teen doesn't want to go to therapy. Now what?

Very normal. I ask reluctant teens to give it three sessions before deciding. Once they realize the space is actually theirs, most choose to continue.

Will you tell me what my teen says in session?

Confidentiality is what makes teen therapy work, so sessions stay private, with the important exception of safety concerns, which I will always bring to you. You'll get regular updates on progress and themes.

Do you see college students?

Yes. Lawrence is a college town, and I work with KU students and other young adults navigating this exact stretch of life, in person or by telehealth.
