Somatic Therapy & Trauma-Sensitive Yoga in Lawrence, KS

Gentle, body-based practices for when understanding your story hasn't been enough to change how you feel.

You can understand your story perfectly and still flinch at a raised voice. That's because trauma and chronic stress don't live only in your thoughts; they live in the body too, and insight alone doesn't reach them. The body has to be part of the conversation.

Somatic therapy brings the body into the room. We slow down and notice what's actually happening (the clenched jaw, the held breath, the urge to brace or disappear) and work directly with those responses, teaching your nervous system through experience that the danger is over.

I also weave in trauma-sensitive yoga: simple, invitational movement and breath practices where you are always in charge of your own body. There's no performance involved and nothing complicated. It's a gentle way to start feeling at home in your body again.

What somatic work looks like

01

Track

We build the skill of noticing body sensations with curiosity instead of alarm, the foundation of every somatic approach.

02

Regulate

Breath, orientation, grounding, and movement practices that shift your physiology in real time: tools your body learns, not just your mind.

03

Renegotiate

Gently completing the defensive responses your body never got to finish, so your body can register that the danger is over.

Common questions

Wondering about somatic & yoga-informed?

Have a question that isn’t answered here? Reach out anytime.

Do I need yoga experience or flexibility?

None at all. Trauma-sensitive yoga uses simple, accessible movements and every single one is optional and adaptable. It's about interoception (feeling from the inside), not fitness.

Will there be touch involved?

No. This work uses guided awareness, breath, and your own movement. You remain fully in charge of your body at every moment.

Can somatic work be combined with EMDR?

Beautifully, yes. Somatic skills strengthen the stabilization phase of EMDR, and body awareness deepens reprocessing. Many of my clients use both.
